“This fleshy red shows black cherry, plum, herb and vanilla flavors over sturdy tannins.” September 30th, 2007

This catchy-named, three grape blend is a nice wine that's sinewy and leathery; overall it offers a natural and controlled reflection of Jumilla, a warm region in southeast Spain. The nose is forward and fiery, while the palate has berry-driven ripeness and plenty of oak. Better with food as the tannins are kind of scratchy without something to absorb them. Best Buy. 11/2007
Modern Dog
A big wine from the south of Spain... Offering depth and ripeness of flavor, this is both a bold and elegant wine. 09/2007
Sante
Well focused red and black fruit with good structure and balance; ripe red fruit and black pepper finish with meaty notes. 08/2007
Food & Wine
"...full-bodied. Made with grapes from the hot Spanish region of Jumilla, it balances plummy fruit against firm tannins." Pair with steak and lamb. 06/2007

2004 Vintage, Mad dogs & Englishmen
Spectator Selection: Best Value
“Rich, sweet cocoa flavors dominate this distinctive red. Raisin, licorice, and tobacco notes play supporting roles on the thick palate. Intriguing, if atypical.” November 30, 2006
“For bargains it’s hard to beat the Jumilla region of Spain. The variety native to the area is Monastrell, otherwise know as Mourvedre, which is earthy and full. To taste the character of the grape, uncork the 2004 Mad dogs & Englishmen Jumilla Shiraz-Cabernet-Monastrell ($10.), comprised primarily of Monastrell. It’s muscular with noticeable tannins and dark berry fruit notes. This is a steak wine if ever there was one”. Leslie Sbrocco, Special to the Chronicle, Thursday, May 18, 2006
